What is it?

In short, an ionic foot soak is a simple and painless process of using water and negatively charged ions to energize the body and to more efficiently perform its functions of cleansing and healing.

Ionic foots soaks are a way of recreating the restorative properties associated with the various healing mineral baths or "hot springs" around the globe (some of the more famous ones are Bath in Avon England, Saratoga Springs in New York USA and Wiesbaden in Germany). As science studied the water in these springs and learned more about what makes these waters different (namely their electrical charge)...ionic foot soaks were born. Like the hot springs used for centuries, ionic foot baths have been shown to make a dramatic difference in a wide range of ailments, especially joint and muscle pains, but like a good hot bath they can be beneficial for anyone.

To give you a sense of the dramatic difference this can make on the cellular level, take a look at these before and after pictures. On the left are live red blood cells before an Ionic Foot Bath and on the right is the same blood after a 35 minute soak.

Note how on the left the blood cells are clumped together and on the right they are free floating. Since red blood cells are the body's grocery delivery system, their ability to nourish all the cells of the body is vital for all other processes.

The Simple Explanation

Just like each person has a unique set of fingerprints, so too does each living person produce their own unique "electrical signature". This electrical field is what allows an MRI machine (and other similar devices) to actually do their job. For movie buffs, this reality of the human body producing energy was the basis behind the Matrix trilogy...the machines used the human body as a power source...a battery if you will.

By providing your cells with a "better charged battery" an ionic foot soak not only tends to boost someone's energy level, it enables your cells to more efficiently dislodge unwanted particles that have attached themselves somewhere on the cell. These free floating particles are thus more easily eliminated. What is fascinating to watch is that, along with impurities present in the water, these dislodged particles often cause the water to change various colors during the foot bath, sometimes dramatically and typically more so than the water would by itself. While the color significance is still being studied, some emerging science is giving credence to the idea that the color change can be indicative of detoxification from various parts of the body (see the chart below).

Below is a description of the common colors the water may change and the possible significance of each color:

Color or Particle Material/Area of Body being Detoxified
Black Detoxifying from liver
Black Flecks Heavy Metals
Brown Detoxifying from liver, cellular debris, tobacco
Dark Green Detoxifying from gallbladder
Orange Detoxifying from joints
Red Flecks Blood clot material
White cheese-like material Most likely yeast
White Foam Detoxifying from lymphatic system
Yellow-Green Detoxifying from kidneys, bladder, urinary tract, female/prostate area

Note: While the color changes in the water can be dramatic, it is not the most important factor and one must be careful about making any judgments based only on the water color. For some people the water does not change color very much. The common indicators we see in using our foot bath with various people has been a yellowish color, black flecks and a white foamy substance. Sometimes there is even oily or mucous-like substance located on the container at water level which generally contains materials released from the outer layers of the skin.

A better indicator of the effectiveness of a foot soak besides water color change can be found in the color change in the urine of the individual. Well hydrated people with relatively clear urine before a foot bath will notice a much darker urine color after the footbath. This difference can be attributed to the increase in body function. This same darker coloring of urine can also be seen after eating because the body is processing waste materials. After a treatment, even though no food has been consumed, the extra energy seems to activate waste product or toxin removal evident by it presence in the urine.

The Scientific Explanation

All living things have a unique electrical charge (or signature). An ion is a charged atom that has gained or lost an electron which creates a magnetic field capable of attaching to and neutralizing oppositely charged particles.

Neutralized particles can be extracted from the body through the process called osmosis. Osmosis is a scientific term that is used to describe the movement of particles through a membrane from an area of lower concentration to an area of higher concentration. In this case, the higher concentration refers to the ion field that is set up by placing the array (look closely at the picture above) into the water while running the unit.

The array is placed into the water alongside the hands, feet, or body while the power supply delivers a low level direct current to the array. This causes the metals within the array in combination with water and salt to generate positively and negatively charged ions by separating oxygen and hydrogen in the water.

It is believed that the ions travel through the body attaching themselves to a multitude of toxic substances, thereby neutralizing their positive or negative charge. It may be possible to reduce pain and other symptoms caused by a lifetime of toxic buildup in the body (assuming the symptoms are caused by toxic buildup). The long-term effectiveness of an ionic foot bath cleansing process also depends on other life-enhancing changes a person is willing to make.

How long does it last, and how many sessions will I need?

Sessions last about 25 minutes (less time for children), and for first-time users 6-10 sessions are typically recommended. One session every 1-2 months is recommended for maintenance.
